PENGUINS (27-13-8) at DEVILS (18-22-8)

NEWARK, N.J. -- Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, who is being tested for a possible concussion, will not be in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Friday.

Ehrhoff, who was injured in a loss against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, was sent back to Pittsburgh to be examined.

"Christian went home to see our doctors so he's back home in Pittsburgh and we'll get an update on him [Saturday]," Penguins coach Mike Johnston said. "We have no results right but he is going through concussion protocol. It hasn't been deemed a concussion but when a player hits his head on the ice or glass, this is the process you need to take."

Ehrhoff has three goals, 13 points, and a plus-9 in 43 games. He likely will be replaced in the lineup by Scott Harrington. A second-round pick (No. 54) by the Penguins at the 2011 NHL Draft, Harrington has no points and four shots on goal in nine games.

The Penguins, who have lost five of the past six games, also will be without center Evgeni Malkin (lower body) for the fourth straight game.

Forward Beau Bennett rotated in on rushes by the fourth line during the morning skate but will not play, according to Johnston.

"We need to pick up our intensity and raise our level on the road playing against an energized team; our start is important," Penguins captain Sidney Crosby said. "Especially against [the Devils], who play a tight-checking game and are patient."

Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, the expected starter for the Penguins, has started all three games against the Devils this season; he is 2-1-0 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.

Devils goalie Cory Schneider, the expected starter, is 1-4-0 with a 2.81 GAA and .890 save percentage in five career games against the Penguins.

The Devils have won five straight against the Penguins and are 14-3-0 against them at Prudential Center since 2008-09.
