WASHINGTON -- Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will return from a lower-body injury and be in the lineup against the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TVA Sports, SN1).
Crosby missed the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game and Pittsburgh's 5-3 victory against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. He sustained the injury Jan. 10 against the Montreal Canadiens, but played through it until taking an injection last week.
Crosby's 51 points rank sixth in the NHL. He shares the Penguins' scoring lead with forward Evgeni Malkin, who is currently out because of a lower-body injury. The hope is Malkin will skate in a few days.
"If he gets on the ice this weekend, then we would plan on probably taking him out west," coach Mike Johnston said, referring to the Penguins' three-game road trip beginning Feb. 4. "That's going to be the key thing, whether the trainers clear him to get on the ice or not."
