Penguins Asham apologizes for knockout punch @NHL

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Penguins forward Arron Asham called himself "classless" for rubbing it in after he took down Washington's Jay Beagle in a fight on Thursday night.

Asham dropped Beagle with two punches in the third period of Washington's 3-2 overtime win, sending Beagle face-first onto the ice. Asham then spread his arms out, palms down, as he skated to the penalty box and followed it up by placing his hands on the side of his head to imitate someone sleeping.

Beagle's faced was bloodied and he had to be helped off the ice.

Asham says the ending of the fight was "unfortunate" and his behavior "uncalled for."

Washington captain Alex Ovechkin said Asham was "not respectful" for going toe-to-toe with an inexperienced fighter.
