KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Matt Niskanen scored in the eighth round of the shootout to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in a preseason game on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles defenseman Alec Martinez tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play goal at 13:43 of the third.

Evgeni Malkin deked Jonathan Bernier to the left in the first round of the shootout, but Jarret Stoll kept the Kings alive when he snapped a wrister past Marc-Andre Fleury.

Bernier finished with 39 saves and Fleury had 19.

Pittsburgh's Deryk Engelland and Chris Kunitz scored in the third period to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead.

Jarret Stoll opened the scoring for the Kings at 4:31 of the first period.

The game was the Sprint Center's only professional game this year as the NBA canceled the Oct. 15 matchup between the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets because of the lockout.
