Patterson's hat trick leads Blades over Americans in battle of WHL's elite @NHLdotcom

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Gaelan Patterson had his first career hat trick and added an assist, and Walker Wintoneak had three assists as the Saskatoon Blades beat the Tri-City Americans 6-4 on Sunday in a battle of the top two teams in the Western Hockey League.

Patterson, who hadn't had a goal since Dec. 12, scored his first two in the first period as the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie. He completed the hat trick at 2:47 of the third period for a 5-2 lead.

Travis Toomey, Derek Hulak and Jeremy Boyer also scored for Saskatoon, which has won five straight.

The Blades (28-7-4) have the best record in the WHL, one point ahead of Tri-City (29-10-1). They lead Eastern Conference by four points over Calgary and Brandon.

Kruise Reddick score a pair of goals for Tri-City, which earned seven of a possible 10 points while playing five games in eight days. The Americans, who also had goals from Johnny Lazo and Tyler Schmidt, lead the Western Conference by six points over Vancouver.
