10-25 Laine CBJ return to lineup

Patrik Laine was placed on injured reserve by the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

The forward is expected to be out 3-4 weeks with a sprained ankle.
The move is retroactive to Nov. 12, when Laine was injured during a 4-3 loss at the New York Islanders. He played 22:29 and was on the ice when Islanders forward Zach Parise scored 39 seconds into overtime. Laine has four points (two goals, two assists) in eight games; he missed six earlier this season with a sprained right elbow sustained against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 12 that was expected to keep him out 3-4 weeks.
"More and more injuries keep happening so it's tough," Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau said Thursday. "It's hard to watch. Two of our top players (Laine and Zach Werenski) are now going to be out for a while. That definitely hurts us but gives other players opportunities to prove themselves and we need those guys in this case to step up and play a role for us because it's a long season."
"I've never been on a team with many injuries. It's new to me."
Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins is out 1-2 weeks with an undisclosed injury. He left in the second period of a 5-4 overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, allowing two goals on 17 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo.
Goalie Daniil Tarasov was added to the roster on emergency conditions from Cleveland of the American Hockey League. Korpisalo made 38 saves in a 6-4 victory against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Defenseman Jake Bean is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury sustained against the Flyers.
The Blue Jackets (6-9-1) are also missing their top defense pair. Werenski was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and likely will be out for the season with a dislocated shoulder and torn labrum. Nick Blankenburg is expected out 6-8 weeks with a fractured ankle and high ankle sprain. Each was injured during a 5-2 win against the Flyers on Nov. 10.
"Every time (head trainer) Mike Vogt walks into my office, I just shake my head," Columbus coach Brad Larsen said. "It's not like it's day to day (injuries). It seems to be bad news -- real bad news."
Forward Jakub Voracek is out indefinitely because of an upper-body injury he sustained Nov. 4. Larsen said he's "not even in the discussion right now."
Jack Roslovic played Thursday after the forward was a healthy scratch Tuesday.
