SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Patrick Maroon and Luca Caputi both scored in the shootout as the Syracuse Crush slipped past the St. John's IceCaps 5-4 on Friday in American Hockey League action.
Caputi also scored in regulation for Syracuse (31-27-8), while Jean-Francois Jacques, Troy Bodie and Riley Holzapfel also had goals.
Jason King and Jason DeSantis both had a goal and an assist for St. John's (38-19-18), while Patrice Cormier and John Albert added singles.
Iiro Tarkki started in the Crush net and made three stops on six shots in eight minutes 14 seconds of work. He was pulled after King's power-play goal and replaced by Igor Bobkov, who made 22 saves on 23 shots and turned aside four shooters in the shootout to earn the win.
David Aebischer gave up four goals on 19 shots in the first period for the IceCaps. Eddie Pasquale stopped 22 shots in relief.
St. John's went 2 for 3 on the power play, while Syracuse went 2 for 7.
Seven of the game's eight regulation-time goals were scored in the first period, with the Crush outshooting the IceCaps 19-10 in the first 20 minutes of play. Syracuse outshot St. John's 42-29 in the game.
