Panthers get Smithson from Predators @NHLdotcom
The Florida Panthers on Friday acquired center Jerred Smithson from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft that they previously had acquired from Dallas.

"Jerred is a hard-working, responsible, veteran player who plays well at both ends of the ice," GM Dale Tallon said in a statement. "He is a very good penalty-killer who has consistently ranked among his team's leaders in faceoff win percentage."

Smithson, 33, has played in 527 regular-season games, all but 30 with the Predators, scoring 36 goals and adding 53 assists for 89 points. He has one goal and four assists in 53 games this season, and has career highs of nine goals, in 2009-10, and 16 points, in 2007-08. Smithson has a 55.6 winning percentage on faceoffs this season and is above 55 percent for his career.

He has also played in 31 postseason games for Nashville, and scored the first overtime goal in franchise history in Game 5 of the Predators' opening-round series against Anaheim last spring, helping Nashville to its first-ever playoff series victory the following game.
