Schneider_Tippett_Luongo

All these years later, Roberto Luongo is still haunted by Cory Schneider.

When the Florida Panthers selected forward Owen Tippett with the No. 10 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft presented by adidas, his red hair and blue eyes seemed to send a shiver of sorts down Luongo's spine.

Luongo had been the starting goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks when Schneider, who the Canucks selected No. 26 in the 2004 NHL Draft, played so well during the 2010-11 season that it appeared the team had two viable starting goalies. By 2012-13, Schneider moved into the No. 1 spot.
Rather than take the situation too seriously, the two took a more amicable, even playful, approach, as evidenced by this bit from TSN in March 2013.

The Canucks traded Schneider to the New Jersey Devils at the 2013 NHL Draft and traded Luongo to the Panthers at the trade deadline in 2014, but they remained linked.

They even kept trading jabs. One of the big moments from the 2016 NHL All-Star Game was Brent Burns' son Jagger scoring a goal during the Honda Breakaway Challenge, but that very cute highlight was preceded by Luongo and Schneider jockeying for position in the net before they tumbled out of the way and left a wide open goal.

The Panthers play the Devils three times in 2017-18, so Luongo and Schneider have a few potential head-to-head matchups coming. And Luongo already has a blue-eyed, redheaded teammate to worry about in defenseman Mike Matheson, who is in the Panthers organization.

Once Tippett cracks the lineup, hopefully things won't get too awkward.
