CHARLOTTETOWN - The P.E.I. Rocket fired head coach and director of hockey operations Guy Chouinard on Tuesday.
"We felt the organization needed a change behind the bench," team president Serge Savard Jr. said in a release. " This is a very difficult decision to remove a gentleman like Guy Chouinard. The 25 players all have a share in the blame but unfortunately only one player takes the fall in this difficult situation.
"We just felt the team was not responding the way they should be."
P.E.I. has opened the season with a 5-3-0-2 record.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team did not name Chouinard's replacement, but did say Corrado Micalef will remain as an assistant coach.
The Rocket return to action Saturday against the visiting Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
