Owen makes 14 saves as Moncton shuts out Cape Breton 2-0 in QMJHL action @NHLdotcom

CAPE BRETON - Shane Owen made 14 saves for Moncton as the Wildcats shut out the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 2-0 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play Tuesday.

The win marks Owen's third shut out in 15 appearances this season. The 19-year-old from Markham, Ont., signed with the Wildcats as a free agent this season after spending three seasons with the OHL's Erie Otters.

Mark Barberio got Moncton (44-13-5) on the board early in the first period. Kirill Kabanov followed with his own goal just under a minute later.

Olivier Roy stopped 31 shots in defeat for Cape Breton (37-21-5).

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Gatineau 2 Val-d'Or 1 and Rimouski 4 Chicoutimi 1.

At Sydney, N.S., Barberio opened the scoring with a goal 4:55 into the first with an assist from Gabriel Bourque to lead the Wildcats 1-0.

Kabanov extended the lead barely a minute later with assists from Ted Stephens and Alex Wall.

The Wildcats outshot Cape Breton 31-14.


Olympiques 2 Foreurs 1

At Val-d'Or, Que., Christian Ouellet scored early in the third period to help Gatineau edge the Foreurs.

Mitchell Porowski also scored for the Olympiques (27-30-5).

Anthony Taylor had the only goal for Val-d'Or (22-35-7).


Oceanic 4 Sagueneens 1

A Chicoutimi, Que., Felix Lefrancois scored twice to lift Rimouski over the Sagueneens.

Gabriel Vallee and Alex Belzile also scored for the Oceanic (32-23-7).

Nicolas Therrien had the lone goal for Chicoutimi (25-29-9).
