Ovechkin, Capitals top Islanders in preseason finale @NHLdotcom

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals, and John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov each had a goal and three assists to lead the Washington Capitals to a 6-2 victory against the New York Islanders at Verizon Center on Sunday in the final game of the NHL preseason.

T.J. Oshie had a goal and two assists, and Jay Beagle scored for the Capitals, who were 5-0-2 in the preseason. Washington, which was 3-for-4 on the power play, opens its regular season Oct. 10 against the New Jersey Devils at Verizon Center.

Josh Bailey had a goal and an assist, and Kyle Okposo scored for the Islanders (2-6-0). New York plays its first home game at Barclays Center on Oct. 9 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Capitals goalie Braden Holtby made 22 saves for the win. Thomas Greiss started for the Islanders and allowed five goals on 18 shots. Stephon Williams played the third period and made seven saves.
