OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators have lost the services of forwards Mike Fisher and Chris Neil as the slumping club tries to get out of its tailspin.
The Senators, winless in five games and having fallen to last place in the Eastern Conference, announced Wednesday that Fisher could miss the next couple of weeks after straining ligaments in his right knee.
The centre was injured when he tweaked his knee in a shootout loss to the New York Rangers on Monday night.
He won't require surgery, however.
"It definitely could have been a lot worse," he said. "I hope it'll be a case of a little bit of rest and a lot of therapy and I'll be back on the ice soon."
Right-winger Neil suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee on Saturday in a loss to the New York Islanders and will undergo surgery. He's expected to miss at least a few weeks.
"It's disappointing," he said. "(But the) bottom line is, it's early in the season. I can get it done with and get back in the lineup."
