Fantasy MVP: Brady Tkachuk, LW (rank: 19) -- The Ottawa Senators left wing has been among the 20 best fantasy players with 44 points (21 goals, 23 assists), including eight on the power play, 259 shots on goal and 303 hits. He ranks second in the NHL in hits behind Ryan Reaves of the Vegas Golden Knights (316) and eighth in SOG. It is impressive that Tkachuk is one point from matching the 45 (22 goals, 23 assists) he had as a rookie in 2018-19 considering the lack of any other elite forward options on the Senators.
Biggest surprise: Anthony Duclair, LW/RW -- He leads current Senators with 23 goals in 66 games (Jean-Gabriel Pageau had 24 before he was traded to the New York Islanders on Feb. 24), mostly skating in a top-six role. Duclair had 30 points (21 goals, nine assists) in his first 37 games and was tied for sixth in the NHL in goals at the time with elite centers Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche, Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Sebastian Aho of the Carolina Hurrianes. Duclair has shown flashes of being an elite goal-scoring threat; he is tied for ninth in the NHL with five multigoal games.
Unsung hero: Thomas Chabot, D -- He's tied for 22nd among NHL defensemen with 39 points (six goals, 33 assists) in 71 games, including 11 PPP, and his 186 SOG are seventh. It's his second consecutive season with at least 33 assists, 11 PPP and 185 SOG. It's impressive that he's stayed fantasy-relevant given Ottawa's roster turnover (traded Pageau, Erik Karlsson, Mark Stone, Mike Hoffman and Matt Duchene in past two seasons). Chabot also is averaging more than one hit per game (79 in 71 games), adding to his category coverage.
