Ostapchuk scores short-handed winner as Huskies down Montreal 3-1 @NHLdotcom

Sergey Ostapchuk's short-handed magic helped the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies reclaim top spot in the West Division.

Ostapchuk scored while killing a penalty late in the second period to give Rouyn-Noranda a 3-1 victory over the division-rival Montreal Junior on Saturday night in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

With the win, the Huskies (23-18-4-2) took a two-point lead on Montreal for one of the top-four overall positions awarded to division leaders.

It was the sixth meeting of the season between the two clubs. Rouyn-Noranda is undefeated at home against the Junior this season and leads the season series with a record of 4-1-1-0.

Montreal (24-18-1-1) entered Saturday's contest on a three-game winning streak, while the Huskies had lost three straight. The Junior struck first, with Philippe Fontaine finding the net two minutes and 43 seconds into the game.

Four minutes later, Jeff Desjardins got Rouyn-Noranda on the board, scoring a power-play goal to knot the game at 1-1.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Saint John 6, Chicoutimi 5 (OT); Victoriaville 5, Rimouski 4; P.E.I. 5, Cape Breton 0; Halifax 6, Acadie-Bathurst 2; and Lewiston 4, Val-d'Or 2.

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Nicolas Deslauriers iced the game with an empty-netter in the final minute of the third.

Antoine Lafleur made 25 saves for the Huskies. Montreal netminder Jake Allen stopped 18 shots.


Sea Dogs 6, Sagueneens 5 (OT)

At Chicoutimi, Que., David Stich scored 2:25 into overtime as Saint John blew a 5-2 lead late in the third period but eventually earned a win over the Sagueneens.

Steven Anthony scored two goals and an assist for Saint John (25-19-2-2). Shea Kewin, Benjamin Lecomte and Olivier Ouellet, who also added three assists, also scored for the Sea Dogs.

Michal Hlinka, Alexandre Murray, Drew Paris, Nicolas Deschamps and Mathieu Tousignant replied for Chicoutimi (16-23-3-3), which is on a six-game losing skid.


Tigres 5, Oceanic 4

At Victoriaville, Que., Maxime Tanguay's power-play goal with 1:36 remaining in regulation broke a 4-4 tie as the Tigres edged Rimouski.

David Cliche, with two, Brandon Hynes and Chad Earle had the other goals for Victoriaville (25-21-0-1).

Philippe Cornet, Luca Cunti, Patrick Delisle-Houde and Alexandre Brunet replied for Rimouski (24-21-1-0).


Rocket 5, Screaming Eagles 0

At Sydney, N.S., Nadeau stopped all 31 shots as P.E.I. blanked the Screaming Eagles.

Simon Olsson, Ben Duffy, Benjamin Casavant, Christopher Guay and Joel Champagne scored for P.E.I. (17-23-4-5).

Olivier Roy made 24 saves for Cape Breton (33-13-1-1), which saw its eight-game winning streak snapped.


Mooseheads 6, Titan 2

At Halifax, Jan Stransky and Yuri Cheremetiev scored two goals each as the Mooseheads turned aside Acadie-Bathurst.

Linden Bahm and Gerrad Grant had the other goals for Halifax (13-27-2-2)

Spencer Jezegou and Eric Faille scored for Acadie-Bathurst (17-22-5-4).


Maineiacs 4, Foreurs 2

At Val-d'Or, Que., Danick Paquette scored a hat trick to lead Lewiston past the Foreurs.

Dominic Savoie scored the winning goal for the Maineiacs (16-32-0-0) with 31 seconds remaining in the third period. Paquette completed his hat trick with an empty-netter 16 seconds later.

Keven Guerette-Charland and Alexandre Monahan found the net for Val-d'Or (10-30-2-4).
