Oshawa's Tavares, Belleville's Subban to lead OHL against Russians @NHLdotcom

TORONTO - Oshawa Generals forward John Tavares and Belleville Bulls defenceman P.K. Subban headline the Ontario Hockey League's roster for the 2008 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge in November.

Tavares and Subban won a gold medal at the 2008 world junior hockey championship in Pardubice, Czech Republic, and will likely play for Canada again at the 2009 tournament in Ottawa.

Players eligible to for the Canadian junior team (age 19 and under) were chosen to face a squad of Russian selects Nov. 20 in Guelph, Ont., and Nov. 24 in St. Catharines, Ont.

The two contests are part of an annual six-game series involving the three major junior hockey leagues in the Canadian Hockey League. The CHL is 25-5 versus Russia in five previous series.

Among the 30 named to the rosters Tuesday were forwards Matt Duchene of the Brampton Battalion and Nazem Kadri of the London Knights, who along with Tavares are top prospects for the 2009 NHL entry draft.

Windsor Spitfires forward Taylor Hall, projected to be an early draft pick in 2010, was also named to the team.

The QMJHL opens the series Nov. 17 in Sydney, N.S., with the second game scheduled for Nov. 19 in Saint John, N.B.

The WHL concludes the series Nov. 26 in Swift Current, Sask., and Nov. 27 in Prince Albert, Sask.

Hockey Canada head scout Al Murray, Sarnia Sting general manager Alan Miller and Guelph Storm GM Jeff Twohey selected the players. Murray will evaluate players during the series for a possible invitation to the Canadian junior team's selection camp Dec. 11-15 in Ottawa.

Dave Cameron of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors is the coach of the OHL team. He'll be an assistant to Pat Quinn on the Canadian junior team in Ottawa.

All six games will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet and RDS will carry the two games in Quebec.
