LONDON, Ont. - The London Knights are making a huge splash on the day before the Ontario Hockey League trade deadline.
The team has acquired star forward John Tavares from the Oshawa Generals.
Tavares's agent Pat Brisson confirmed the deal. Other details weren't immediately available.
Brisson said it became obvious that Tavares needed to change teams, but that it was a hard decision for the 18-year-old after more than three years in Oshawa.
Tavares is the favourite to be selected with the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft.
He helped Canada win its fifth straight gold medal at the world junior hockey championship earlier this week.
