Oshawa Generals forward John Tavares named CHL player of the week @NHL

TORONTO - Oshawa Generals forward John Tavares was named Canadian Hockey League player of the week Tuesday.

He scored four goals and added five assists in three games last week. Tavares, who is eligible for the 2009 NHL entry draft, was recently ranked the top OHL skater by NHL Central Scouting in its preliminary draft rankings.

Dany Masse of the Drummondville Voltigeurs and Brett Sonne of the Calgary Hitmen were also considered.

Chet Pickard of the Tri-City Americans was named CHL goaltender of the week.

He won all three of his starts last week, posting a goals-against average of 0.67 and a save percentage of .976. Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats and Thomas McCollum of the Guelph Storm were also considered.
