Oliver Bjorkstrand signed a five-year, $27 million contract extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. It has an average annual value of $5.4 million beginning next season.

The 25-year-old forward is in the final season of a three-year contract he signed July 15, 2018 and could have become a restricted free agent after the season.
"My first four or five seasons here in the NHL we've been a [Stanley Cup] Playoff team, so I definitely can't complain about that," Bjorkstrand said. "And looking into the future, I believe in the group, and we always talk about how we want to take that next step. I think I think we're close. I think we have a bright future here and I'm very happy about being a part of that future."
Bjorkstrand led the Blue Jackets with 21 goals last season, his second straight scoring at least 20, and five game-winning goals. He scored 36 points in 49 regular-season games and three goals in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Selected by Columbus in the third round (No. 89) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Bjorkstrand has scored 133 points (65 goals, 68 assists) in 246 regular-season games and 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 31 playoff games.
"He's a good player that we expect to get even better," general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. "He was projecting over 30 goals last year if it was a full season. ... He's been a valuable player for us in many different situations in the past and we expect him to get to another level yet."
