The Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday named Bob Green as their director of amateur free agent scouting.
Green was the Western Hockey League executive of the year in 2011-12 and 2012-13 for his work with the Edmonton Oil Kings. He will work closely with the Oilers hockey operations department and amateur scouting staff and will assist in identifying and recruiting NCAA, CHL and select European free agents.
Green, 52, joins the Oilers after serving as general manager of the Oil Kings for the past six seasons. They won the WHL championship in 2011-12 and earned a berth in the Memorial Cup. In 2012-13, the Oil Kings finished first in the Eastern Conference and advanced to the WHL finals for the second consecutive year before losing to the Portland Winterhawks.
