Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish announced Tuesday the club has issued qualifying offers to six players, including its second-leading scorer from last season, center Sam Gagner.
Oilers players issued qualifying offers were: Gagner, defenseman Taylor Fedun, goaltender Niko Hovinen, and forwards Teemu Hartikainen, Magnus Paajarvi and Antti Tyrvainen.
Gagner had 38 points (24 assists) in 2012-13. The sixth selection in the 2007 NHL Draft, Gagner enjoyed a breakout year in 2011-12 when he established career highs in goals (18), assists (29) and points (47). He collected eight points in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks, matching a franchise record held by Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey.
Veteran defenseman Theo Peckham, who played in four games in 2012-13, was not given a qualifying offer and will become a free agent July 5.
