The Edmonton Oilers forward is facing discipline for boarding Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri.
The incident occurred 1:06 into the first period of the Oilers' 4-2 loss in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final at Rogers Place on Saturday. Kane was assessed a major penalty for boarding on the play.
Kadri, who spent several minutes on the ice and was attended to by Colorado's trainer before being helped to the dressing room, is out for the rest of the series with an undisclosed injury.
"I was just coming in on the backcheck," Kane said. "Puck went wide, kind of dribbled into the corner. I know he likes to reverse hit. I was just trying to get a bump on him, that's really all I did. Unfortunately, he went into the boards awkwardly and hurt his hands. But that was unfortunate."
Game 4 of the best-of-7 series is Monday in Edmonton. Colorado leads 3-0.
The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: boarding. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
