Scott Sabourin scored the winning goal in the shootout Wednesday night as the Oshawa Generals rallied to defeat the Ottawa 67's 4-3 in the Ontario Hockey League.
Sabourin, who missed several opportunities throughout the game, beat Keegan Wilson with the eighth and final shot of the shootout.
The 67's had a great opportunity to win it prior to the shootout after Generals forward Scott Laughton was issued a major penalty and game misconduct for a hit to the head late in the third period.
Ottawa played the final 2:34 of regulation with the man advantage that changed to a 4-on-3 for the opening 2:26 of overtime, but were unable to beat Oshawa goaltender Daniel Altshuller.
"It's the older guys that need to take responsibility with their effort for here tonight," Ottawa head coach Chris Byrne said. "It was a pretty good effort from some of the other guys."
Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Erie 7, Saginaw 1; and Mississauga 6, Belleville 1.
At Ottawa, Ryan Van Stralen gave the 67's a 3-2 lead seven minutes into the third period with their third power-play goal of the game, but they were unable to hang onto the lead. Remy Giftopoulos and Sean Monahan had the other goals for Ottawa (3-8-1) while Wilson made 27 saves.
Tyler Biggs had two goals in regulation for the Generals (9-4-1) and Boone Jenner had the other. Altshuller made 27 saves.
67's forward Tyler Graovac had a six-game goal-scoring streak snapped in the loss.
Otters 7, Spirit 1
At Erie, Penn., J.P. Labardo scored twice and Luke Cairns added a goal and two assists the Otters (4-7-2) hammered Saginaw (4-7-2).
Steelheads 6, Bulls 1
At Belleville, Ont., Stuart Percy, Damian Bourne and Riley Brace each had a goal and an assist as Mississauga (7-4-1) thumped the Bulls (7-4-1).
