OHL Roundup: A look at Friday's games @NHLdotcom

After picking up points in nine consecutive games, the Plymouth Whalers have jumped into a tie with the London Knights for first place in the Ontario Hockey League standings.

The Whalers (15-6-3) defeated the Knights 4-1 on Friday night to put each team at a league-high 33 points apiece.

Rickard Rakell led Plymouth with two goals while Andy Bathgate and Alex Aleardi added singles.

Chase Hatcher scored the lone goal for London (16-4-1).

Scott Wedgewood made 22 saves for the win while Michael Houser stopped 41 of 44 shots he faced in defeat.

The Whalers scored just once on nine power-play opportunities as the Knights failed to score on eight opportunities with the man advantage.

Not only are these teams tied for first overall in the OHL, they are also tied for most goals scored with 93.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Sarnia 6, Saginaw 3; Guelph 4, Oshawa 2; Niagara 5, Kingston 0; Kitchener 8, Erie 1; Barrie 6, Ottawa 5 (OT); Sault Ste. Marie 7, Brampton 2 and Sudbury 4, Mississauga 3.

At London, Ont., Bathgate opened the scoring on a power play just 2:55 into the game, giving the Whalers a 1-0 lead.

Rakell doubled Plymouth's lead at 7:42 of the second period and it stayed that way until 7:26 of the third period when Hatcher scored for the Knights, cutting the lead in half.

Rakell scored his second of the game at 17:54 of the third period to make it 3-1 Plymouth.

Aleardi scored into an empty net less than a minute later for the 4-1 Plymouth victory.

At Sarnia, Ont., Brett Thompson had a hat trick, Nail Yakupov had two goals and an assist while Charles Sarault chipped in with four assists as the Sting (14-4-4) doubled up Saginaw (8-13-2).

At Guelph, Ont., Zach Mitchell scored three goals and assisted on another as the Storm (9-7-4) beat Oshawa (10-12-3).


IceDogs 5 Frontenacs 0

At Kingston, Ont., Ryan Strome scored twice and Mark Visentin stopped 16 shots as Niagara (11-9-2) shut out the Frontenacs (5-14-3).


Rangers 8 Otters 1

At Kitchener, Ont., Michael Catenacci had four points and Franky Palazzese made 32 saves as the Rangers (14-6-1) pounded Erie (3-18-0).


Colts 6 67's 5 (OT)

At Ottawa, Tanner Pearson scored three goals, including one in overtime, and added three assists as Barrie (10-8-3) defeated the 67's (12-6-4).


Greyhounds 7 Battalion 2

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., David Quesnele scored a pair of goals as the Greyhounds (14-9-0) beat Brampton (12-7-3).


Wolves 4 Majors 3

At Sudbury, Ont., Josh Leivo and Michael Sgarbossa each had a goal and an assist as the Wolves (10-9-1) defeated Mississauga (11-8-4).
