Eric Staal Minnesota Wild

Center Eric Staal scored the game-winning goal playing his former team in the Minnesota Wild's 3-1 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in a preseason game at Xcel Energy Center on Sunday.
Staal gave the Wild a 2-1 lead at 9:45 of the third period. He had an assist on Charlie Coyle's goal 50 seconds into the second and finished plus-2 in 14:05 of ice time.

Forward Jason Zucker scored and Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu each had an assist for Minnesota.
Forward Derek Ryan scored and defenseman Jaccob Slavin had an assist for the Hurricanes.
Minnesota outshot Carolina 38-17.
Staal, who signed a three-year contract with the Wild on July 1, played parts of 13 seasons with the Hurricanes before being traded last season to the New York Rangers on Feb. 28. He won the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006 and had been captain since 2010.

Hunwick's OT winner boosts Maple Leafs

Defenseman Matt Hunwick scored 4:20 into overtime in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 3-2 preseason win against the Montreal Canadiens at Air Canada Centre on Sunday.
Canadiens left wing Daniel Carr erased a 2-1 deficit at 19:42 of the third period. Center Daniel Audette scored 13:20 into the game off defenseman Nathan Beaulieu's fourth assist of the preseason.
Defensemen Nikita Zaitsev and Morgan Rielly had goals for the Maple Leafs. Zaitsev tied it at 9:19 of the second period before Rielly gave the Maple Leafs the lead 7:35 into the third.
Jhonas Enroth started in goal for the Maple Leafs and stopped seven of eight shots. Garrett Sparks relieved him with 9:12 remaining in the second period and finished with 17 saves.
Canadiens goalie Mike Condon made 28 saves.

Penguins shut out Blue Jackets

Carter Rowney and Tom Kuhnhackl scored goals and Tristan Jarry made 24 saves in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 2-0 preseason win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Sunday.
Rowney opened the scoring 14 minutes into the game on an unassisted goal. Kuhnhackl made it 2-0 at 4:36 of the second period off a feed from Nick Bonino.
Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 21 of 23 shots.
Columbus went 0-for-6 on the power play.

Ebert scores in OT to lift Stars

Defenseman Nick Ebert scored in overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 2-1 win against the Florida Panthers in a preseason game at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario, on Sunday.
Forward Jonathan Huberdeau scored in the first period to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Stars forward Antoine Roussel scored in the second period to tie it 1-1.

Frk collects goal, assist in Red Wings victory

Martin Frk had a goal and an assist to help the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-3 preseason win against the Chicago Blackhawks at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday.
Luke Glendening gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead 59 seconds into the game. Frk scored 58 seconds later and Danny DeKeyser made it 3-0 at 10:48 of the first period.
Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou also had goals for the Red Wings. Goaltender Petr Mrazek made 11 saves.
Alexandre Fortin, Dennis Rasmussen and Brandon Mashinter scored for the Blackhawks, who went 0-for-5 on the power play. Ivan Nalimov started in goal and stopped 13 of 16 shots. Lars Johansson entered with 10:01 remaining in the second period and made 13 saves.

Andreoff, Quick key in Kings win over Ducks

Andy Andreoff scored at 8:21 of the second period for the only goal of the game in the Los Angeles Kings' 1-0 preseason win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Sunday.
Kings goalie Jonathan Quick made 30 saves for the shutout.
Jonathan Bernier stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Ducks.

Nieto wins it for Sharks in OT

Forward Matt Nieto scored twice, including the game-winner with 40 seconds left in overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks in a preseason game at Rogers Arena on Sunday.
Nieto made it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 10:25 of the first period. Forward Kevin Lablanc had a goal and an assist and goalie Martin Jones made 26 saves for San Jose.
Forwards Tuomo Ruutu and Anton Rodin scored and goalie Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 20 shots for Vancouver.

Jets shut out Flames

Scott Kosmachuk had a goal and two assists and Ondrej Pavelec made 31 saves in the Winnipeg Jets' 4-0 preseason win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday.
Ben Chiarot, Mark Stuart and Paul Postma also scored for the Jets.
Chad Johnson started in goal for the Flames and allowed three goals on six shots. Jon Gillies made 17 saves.

McDavid scores as Oilers down Kings

Jesse Puljujarvi, Connor McDavid and Jordan Eberle scored for the Edmonton Oilers in their 3-2 preseason win against the Los Angeles Kings at Kal Tire Place in Vernon, British Columbia, on Sunday.
Paul LaDue scored for the Kings on a wrist shot from the point 4:50 into the third period.
