Nyquist was made the morning line favorite in the Kentucky Derby on Wednesday.

The horse named after Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist was listed at 3-1 after the Derby draw and will run Saturday out of post position No. 13 at Churchill Downs.

Nyquist was listed ahead of Exaggerator (8-1) and three others at 10-1 for the 142nd running of the first leg of the Triple Crown.

"He's doing so well and breaking from 13 is fine," Nyquist's trainer, Doug O'Neill, told NBCSN after the draw. "The post draw didn't matter to us a ton. We're happy to be more towards the outside."

J. Paul Reddam, who owns 2012 Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another, bought Nyquist in 2015. Reddam is a Windsor, Ontario native and a big Red Wings fan, and Nyquist is the eighth horse he has named after Detroit hockey players.

Nyquist is the most successful to date. He has won his first seven starts and is coming off a runaway win at the Florida Derby on April 2.

The horse's namesake said he hopes to attend the race in Louisville, Ky. He said last month he has been following Nyquist's progress despite not being a big fan of horse racing.

"He runs fast, wins races," Nyquist told last week. "That's a good thing since he's a horse."
