Four coaches were handed their pink slips in November. If the final three teams to replace their coaches have the type of success the St. Louis Blues
have had since replacing Davis Payne
with Ken Hitchcock, they'll be very happy with their difficult decisions.
Payne was relieved of his duties on Nov. 6. With Hitchcock behind the bench, the Blues are 8-1-2 and have risen to fifth in the Western Conference.
The Hurricanes fired Paul Maurice
on Monday, about an hour after the Capitals parted ways with Bruce Boudreau
. They were replaced by Kirk Muller
and Dale Hunter
, respectively, and both coaches lost their debuts Tuesday. Muller will try for his first win Thursday, when the Hurricanes host the Rangers, while Hunter will go for his first win Thursday against the Penguins in Washington (7 p.m. ET, NHLN-US).
Following the Ducks' 4-1 win Wednesday, they fired Randy Carlyle
and replaced him with Boudreau, who was out of a job for less than three days. He'll make his debut Friday night at home against the Flyers.
Boudreau last coached the Capitals on Saturday; the six-day turnaround in coaching two different teams in the same season is an NHL record, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
