WASHINGTON -- There will be no changes to either lineup for Game 7 at Verizon Center between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers. Both Capitals coach Adam Oates and Rangers coach John Tortorella are sticking with the same forward lines and defense combinations from Game 6.
Oates said prior to warmups that there was a chance there could be a change in his lineup. He sent Aaron Volpatti onto the ice for warmups, but Tom Wilson took all the line rushes with the fourth line.
The Capitals are confident having Game 7 in their own building, where they are 3-0 in this series and 10-1 against the Rangers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since Game 5 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
They have outscored the Rangers 6-2 in the three games here in this series. They won Games 2 and 5 in overtime.
"We're going to talk about trying to control our emotions," Oates said. "It's our building, our crowd, it's going to be exciting and you know what, you've gotta be able to try and take that energy in and just control yourself."
The Capitals also have to have short memories. They were steaming after Game 6, a 1-0 loss, because of perceived missed calls by the officials, including accusations that Derek Dorsett slew-footed Mike Green late in the third period. Green instead was called for a retaliatory cross-checking penalty.
Washington did not have a single power play in Game 6. The Rangers were 0-for-5.
"You've gotta park it," Capitals forward Jason Chimera said of putting Game 6 behind them. "You've gotta go back and, I guess, reset yourself and kind of move on. Every game is not going to be like that. It's not going to be 5-0 [in power-play chances] every time. So you've gotta work hard.
"We can't take dumb penalties either, the retaliatory penalties," he added. "You can't take those. You're not going to win games doing that. We know that and we'll be better for it [Monday]."
