KENT, Wash. - Nino Niederreiter scored two goals and had two assists to help the Portland Winterhawks to a 6-4 comeback win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday night in the Western Hockey League.
Taylor Aronson had his first two goals of the season for Portland (17-12-0), which overcame a 4-1 deficit.
After Niederreiter opened the scoring for Portland with an even-strength goal at 7:01 of the first period, Seattle scored three straight to lead 3-1 after the first period.
Prab Rai, Sena Acolatse and Charles Wells had the goals for Seattle (10-15-4). Jeremy Schappert scored on a penalty shot to make it 4-1 in the second period before Portland cut the lead to 4-3 on goals by Jacob Berglund and Taylor Aronson.
The Winterhawks pulled even 42 seconds into the third period on Niederreiter's second goal of the game and 15th of the season and took the lead on a power-play goal by Aronson at 13:29 of the third period. The Winterhawks iced the game with an empty net goal at 19:19 of the third.
