Niederberger stops 35 shots as Barrie Colts beat Kitchener Rangers 5-3 @NHLdotcom

BARRIE, Ont. - Mathias Niederberger turned aside 35 shots to backstop the Barrie Colts in a 5-3 victory over the Kitchener Rangers in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.

Ivan Telegin, Tanner Pearson, Aaron Ekblad, Erik Bradford and Alex Lepkowski had the goals for the Colts (36-21-4), who have won seven of their last eight contests.

Colin Behenna and Steven Beyers each had a pair of assists for Barrie.

Pearson?s goal moves him into a tie with Sudbury?s Michael Sgarbossa for second in OHL league scoring.

Tobias Rieder, Ben Thomson and Andrew Crescenzi replied for the Rangers (38-20-2), who haven?t won in Barrie since December 2006.

Barrie?s power-play percentage jumped from third to second in the league following Thursday?s outburst.

The Colts went 2-for-6 on the man advantage. Kitchener finished the night at 0-for-6.

Kitchener?s John Gibson, who was making his first start since late January after getting his tonsils removed, stopped 26 pucks. He had come into the contest leading the OHL with a .932 save percentage.
