Nick Spaling of the San Jose Sharks and Shawn Matthias of the Colorado Avalanche each scored in the first period of his first game with his new team at Pepsi Center on Wednesday.
Spaling, traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, scored at 2:10 to give San Jose a 1-0 lead.

Matthias, traded by the Maple Leafs on Sunday, tied it 1-1 at 13:02.
It was Spaling's second goal of the season; he scored in his last game with the Maple Leafs, against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, to end a 60-game drought (Feb. 15, 2015).
It was Matthias' seventh goal of the season.
The two were linemates at times with Toronto.
