Nick Bonino was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a three-way deal involving the San Jose Sharks and Montreal Canadiens on Friday.

The Sharks received defenseman
Arvid Henrikson
, a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The Canadiens received defenseman
Tony Sund
and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft.
Montreal agreed to retain 50 percent of Bonino's salary.

Bonino is in the final year of a two-year contract he signed with the Sharks on July 28, 2021, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
The 34-year-old center has 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) in 59 games this season.
Selected by San Jose in the sixth round (No. 173) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Bonino has 353 points (158 goals, 195 assists) in 820 regular-season games with the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Penguins, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild and Sharks and 48 points (19 goals, 29 assists) in 105 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
He won the Cup with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017; his play on the "HBK Line" with forwards Carl Hagelin and Phil Kessel was instrumental in Pittsburgh's 2016 Cup run, when Kessel had 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists), Bonino 18 (four goals, 14 assists) and Hagelin 16 (six goals, 10 assists).
The Penguins (31-21-9) hold the first wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
Pittsburgh on Friday also acquired defenseman Dmitry Kulikov from the Ducks for

. The Penguins previously acquired forward Mikael Granlund in a trade with the Predators on Wednesday for a second-round pick in the 2023 draft, and defenseman
Peter Diliberatore
and third-round pick in the 2024 draft in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday for forward Teddy Blueger.
The Sharks (18-32-12) are 24 points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card into the playoffs from the Western Conference.
