Niagara IceDogs defenceman Alex Pietrangelo named CHL player of the week

Niagara IceDogs defenceman Alex Pietrangelo was named Canadian Hockey League player of the week on Monday.

He had three goals and four assists in two games last week. The 17-year-old native of King City, Ont., is tied for fourth in OHL scoring with 10 points (3-7).

Mitch Fadden of the Lethbridge Hurricanes was the Western Hockey League nominee. Claude Giroux of the Gatineau Olympiques was the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League nominee.

Also Monday, Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats was named CHL goaltender of the week.

The 18-year-old native of St-Pie-de-Bagot, Que., had three wins last week with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage.

Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants was the WHL nominee and Cody St. Jacques of the Guelph Storm was the OHL nominee.
