Bergeron skating, could play in final preseason game

Patrice Bergeron won't play for the Boston Bruins until at least their final preseason game against the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden on Saturday (5 p.m. ET; NHLN, NESN), coach Bruce Cassidy said Monday.
Bergeron skated at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston on Monday along with a handful of other injured players but did not practice.
"They're progressing," Cassidy said of the group, which also includes forward Ryan Fitzgerald and defenseman Jakub Zboril.
Bergeron had offseason groin surgery and also sustained back spasms before the start of training camp, which has impacted his preparation. The hope has been to get him ready for the season opener against the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on Oct. 3.
Defenseman Torey Krug and forward Noel Acciari had scheduled days off the ice Monday but their progress appears better. Both are expected to practice Tuesday and could play against the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; NESNPlus).

Crawford could practice with Blackhawks later this week

Corey Crawford could practice with the Chicago Blackhawks by the end of the week, but coach Joel Quenneville said the goaltender probably won't be ready for the season opener at the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 4.
"That might be stretching it at this point," Quenneville said Monday. "He's had a good last few days, good progress, and he's getting closer to joining his teammates. Saturday or early next week is kind of the mindset."
Crawford, who missed the final 47 games of last season with a concussion, had his usual 30-minute workout with goaltending coach Jimmy Waite, working on his side-to-side movement and taking shots.
"I would say he's going to be more than ready before he gets injected into a practice, and it'll probably the same mindset to play again," Quenneville said.
Crawford was 16-9-2 with a 2.27 goals-against average and .929 save percentage last season. He last played on Dec. 23, 2017.
When asked if Crawford could have a conditioning stint with Rockford of the American Hockey League, Quenneville said, "We haven't talked about that."

Allen to make preseason debut Tuesday; Fabbri has groin strain

Jake Allen will make his preseason debut against the Washington Capitals at Enterprise Center on Tuesday.
Allen has been skating regularly since Sept. 18 after he sustained back spasms right before the start of training camp. He will play two periods against the Capitals and is expected to play in two of the final three preseason games.
"Just get my feet wet in a game again and go from there," Allen said. "Right now, we're just trying to get back in the swing of things of progressing well and feeling better in practice and things like that. I'm looking forward to getting into some action, just focus on a few things and go from there."
Allen said he expects to be ready for the season-opener against the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 4.
Forward Robby Fabbri sustained a Grade 1 groin strain in a 5-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday. Coach Mike Yeo said he's day to day.
Forwards David Perron (groin) and Tyler Bozak (groin) returned to practice Monday. According to Yeo, the plan is for both to be in the lineup Tuesday.

Islanders assign eight to Bridgeport, Dobson to junior team

Forwards
Kieffer Bellows
, Michael Dal Colle and Joshua Ho-Sang, and defenseman

, were among New York Islanders training camp cuts Monday.

"Bellows certainly showed up well, better than I thought he would, but right now we have to make some decisions with the people we have here and we have to give the ice time to them," Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "It's best for him to go to the minors, play a lot, play in key situations and grow as a player."
Dobson, the No. 12 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, was returned to his junior team, Acadie-Bathurst of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Defensemen Sebastian Aho and

Chosen by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round (No. 19) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Sbisa has 102 points (18 goals, 84 assists) in 495 games with the Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks and Golden Knights.
