Jarome Iginla won't be re-signed by Kings

Veteran forward Jarome Iginla will not be returning to the Los Angeles Kings, general manager Rob Blake said Saturday.
Iginla, who turned 40 on Saturday, had nine points (six goals, three assists) in 19 games with the Kings after being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in a trade on March 1, giving him 1,300 points (625 goals, 675 assist) in his career, but Blake informed the 20-year veteran at the end of last season Los Angeles would be moving on without him.
Blake praised Iginla's relentless work ethic and dedication to his teammates during his brief stint with the Kings.
"It's a real good opportunity for our young players to see that for a month and to be around it," Blake said, "and I hope they took a lot from it and we wish him well."
Iginla is tied with Joe Sakic for 15th place on the NHL's all-time goal-scoring list, ranks 34th all-time in points, and 12th in games played (1,554). He played 16 of his 20 seasons with the Calgary Flames, and is the Flames all-time leader in goals (525) and points (1,095).

Panthers won't re-sign Jaromir Jagr: report

The Florida Panthers have cut ties with forward Jaromir Jagr, his agent told TSN on Saturday.
Agent Petr Svoboda confirmed the Panthers will not re-sign the 45-year-old.

Jagr had 46 points (16 goals, 30 assists) in 82 games with the Panthers last season. On Oct. 20, he became the third player in NHL history to score 750 goals, joining Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).
On. Dec. 20, he scored his 1,888th NHL point to pass Mark Messier for second behind Gretzky (2,857). On Feb. 15, his 45th birthday, Jagr scored his 1,900th NHL point.
Jagr (1,914 points), who was voted one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players presented by Molson Canadian last season, is third in goals (765), fifth in assists (1,149) and fourth in games played (1,711) in League history. He also holds the NHL career record for most game-winning goals (135). Jagr has played 23 NHL seasons with eight teams.
The Panthers agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Alexander Petrovic on a one-year, one-way contract. TSN reported the contract was worth about $1.8 million.
Petrovic, 25, had 14 points (one goal, 13 assists) in 49 games with Florida last season.

Golden Knights looking to trade defensemen

The Vegas Golden Knights plan to trade one or two defensemen to lessen a glut at that position.
"We're in pretty good shape with our forward group," general manager George McPhee said Saturday. "It's just defense that we have to talk about."
The Golden Knights selected 15 defensemen in the NHL Expansion Draft. They traded three of them: Mark Methot to the Dallas Stars, Trevor van Riemsdyk to the Carolina Hurricanes and David Schlemko to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Golden Knights weren't active when free agency opened Saturday. McPhee said he's pleased with the roster they have.
"Free agency, you have to be careful on July 1. A lot of mistakes are made on July 1," McPhee said. "It can be a bit of a sucker's game. For us it was more of a function of we have a pretty good team. We've just put a team together, we've built it, and now we want to see how they play."
