BUF@LAK: Referee snares Sobotka's flying stick in 2nd

The Dodgers aren't the only capable fly-ball catchers in Los Angeles these days.

NHL referee Francois St. Laurent made the play of the day Saturday, tracking the stick of Buffalo Sabres forward Vladimir Sobotka's and catching it out of midair during the second period of the Sabres game against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
Sobotka's twig was lost during a run-in with Tanner Pearson in the Sabres offensive zone, and the stick sailed through the air toward the Kings bench. But St. Laurent skated back and caught it, even using two hands to make it look routine as a baseball outfielder might.
He didn't even break stride.
Dieter Ruehle, the Staples Center organist who also plays the organ at Dodgers home games, tipped his cap to the play with a riff of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at the subsequent stoppage in play.
The official may have a future as an outfielder, if the whole refereeing thing doesn't work out. Or he might just have a highlight to show his family for years to come.
