Trevor Moore finds a loose puck at the top of the crease and jams it into the open net to give the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead in the 1st period

Frederik Andersen made 26 saves, and Trevor Moore had a goal and an assist in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 3-0 preseason win against the Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday.

John Tavares and Auston Matthews also scored, and Mitchell Marner had two assists.

Keith Kinkaid made 46 saves for Montreal, which went 0-for-3 on the power play.

Moore gave the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead at 7:57 of the first period, then had an assist on Tavares' goal at 16:19.

Andersen made 12 saves in the second.

The Maple Leafs defeated the Canadiens 3-0 in Montreal on Monday.

 

Johansson's OT goal lifts Sabres past Blue Jackets

Marcus Johansson scored at 1:36 of overtime to give the Buffalo Sabres a 4-3 preseason win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at KeyBank Center.

Tage Thompson, Sam Reinhart and Victor Olofsson also scored for Buffalo, and Jack Eichel had two assists. Carter Hutton made 22 saves for the Sabres.

Nathan Gerbe had two goals, and Josh Anderson scored for Columbus. Elvis Merzlikins made 25 saves.

Gerbe scored his second goal of the night to tie it 3-3 with 1:56 remaining in the third period.

Penguins score twice in third, defeat Red Wings

Dominik Simon and Sidney Crosby each scored in the third period for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 4-2 preseason win against the Detroit Red Wings at PPG Paints Arena.

Simon gave the Penguins a 3-2 lead at 1:56, and Crosby made it 4-2 at 16:11.

Brandon Tanev and Bryan Rust scored, Justin Schultz and Jake Guentzel each had two assists, and Matt Murray made 26 saves for Pittsburgh.

Ryan Kuffner and Mike Green scored, and Jonathan Bernier made 28 saves for Detroit.

 

Halak makes 29 saves, Bruins shut out Devils

Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves for the Boston Bruins in a 2-0 preseason win against the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden.

Jack Studnicka scored to make it 1-0 13:26 into the first period when the puck deflected off his face. He skated straight to the dressing room and didn't return until the second period.

David Backes made it 2-0 at 1:22 of the third period.

Mackenzie Blackwood made 30 saves for the Devils.

Rinne makes 32 saves, Predators shut out Hurricanes

Pekka Rinne made 32 saves, and defenseman Mattias Ekholm scored two goals for the Nashville Predators in a 3-0 preseason win against the Carolina Hurricanes at Bridgestone Arena.

Craig Smith scored a power-play goal for Nashville, and Ryan Ellis had two assists.

Ekholm gave the Predators a 2-0 lead at 4:04 of the third period and made it 3-0 at 10:59.

Anton Forsberg made 37 saves for the Hurricanes.

Copley, Holtby combine for 22 saves, Capitals blank Blackhawks

Lars Eller had two goals and an assist, and Pheonix Copley and Braden Holtby combined for a shutout in the Washington Capitals' 6-0 preseason win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.

Copley started and made 17 saves in 30:12. Holtby made five saves over 29:47.

Jakub Vrana had a goal and two assists, and Tom Wilson (shorthanded) and John Carlson each had a goal and an assist. Liam O'Brien also scored, and Colby Williams had two assists.

Corey Crawford allowed six goals on 26 shots for Chicago.

Eller's first goal made it 4-0 at 11:33 of the second period. He scored again at 14:58 of the third for the 6-0 final.

Miller makes 34 saves, Ducks shut out Kings

Ryan Miller made 34 saves for the Anaheim Ducks in a 2-0 preseason win against the Los Angeles Kings at Honda Center.

Adam Henrique gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead 1:40 into the game, and Sam Carrick made it 2-0 with an empty-net goal with 1:12 remaining.

Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for the Kings.

Calvert, Francouz help Avalanche defeat Golden Knights

Matt Calvert had a goal and an assist for the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-1 preseason win against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena.

Vladislav Kamenev, Logan O'Connor and Jayson Megna also scored for Colorado. Pavel Francouz made 16 saves.

Patrick Brown ended Francouz's shutout bid with 18 seconds left in the third period, and Malcolm Subban made 28 saves for Vegas.

Calvert gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead at 10:38 of the first period and had an assist on Kamenev's goal in the second.

Megna, a forward who played all of last season in the American Hockey League (Hershey), scored his third goal of the preseason at 8:33 of the third period to make it 4-0.

Tkachuk has four points, Senators defeat Canucks

Brady Tkachuk had two goals and two assists for the Ottawa Senators in a 6-2 preseason win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Place.

Ottawa scored six straight goals after falling behind 2-0 in the first period.

Filip Chlapik scored at 17:32 of the second to give the Senators a 3-2 lead.

Thomas Chabot and Connor Brown each had a goal and an assist, Artem Anisimov scored shorthanded, Mark Borowiecki had two assists, and Craig Anderson made 44 saves for Ottawa.

Adam Gaudette and Sven Baertschi each had a goal and an assist, and Thatcher Demko allowed six goals on 29 shots for the Canucks.
