Lightning best Hurricanes in OT; Penguins blank Blackhawks

Ondrej Palat scored 1:38 into overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 preseason win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. 

Carolina forward Jeff Skinner scored a power-play goal with 1:05 left in the third period to tie the game. 

Tyler Johnson scored 5:21 into the first period for Tampa Bay, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves.

 

Fleury's 24 saves fuel Penguins shutout

Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 1-0 preseason win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. 

Scott Wilson scored 25 seconds into the second period.

Lars Johansson made 18 saves for Chicago, and Mac Carruth made nine. 

Pittsburgh shut out Chicago 2-0 on Wednesday.

Maple Leafs score eight in win over Sabres

Peter Holland, Matt Hunwick each scored twice for the Toronto Maple Leafs in an 8-1 preseason win against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

William Nylander, Kasperi Kapanen, Rich Clune and Jake Gardiner also scored for Toronto, which led 4-1 in the first period. Defenseman Frank Corrado had three assists and was plus-5.

Derek Grant scored in the first period for the Sabres to tie the game 1-1.

Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov left his Sabres debut because of an apparent back injury, and goalie Robin Lehner was scratched with a forearm contusion, The Buffalo News reported.

Spooner scores OT winner for Bruins

Ryan Spooner scored 34 seconds into overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 2-1 preseason win against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

Boston forward Danton Heinen scored with 7:29 left in the third period to tie the game. Bruins goalie Anton Khudobin made 35 saves.

Riley Sheahan scored a power-play goal 5:24 into the second period for Detroit, and Jimmy Howard made 24 saves.

Scheifele lifts Jets in Laine's debut

Mark Scheifele had a goal and three assists for the Winnipeg Jets in a 5-1 preseason win against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

Blake Wheeler had three assists for Winnipeg. Patrik Laine, the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, had one shot playing 13:57 in his first NHL game.

Adam Lowry, Joel Armia and Tobias Enstrom scored to give the Jets a 3-0 lead. Kyle Connor also scored, and Michael Hutchinson made 33 saves.

Edmonton goalie Cam Talbot allowed five goals on 21 shots. Oskar Klefbom scored a second-period goal.

Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien left the game in the second period for precautionary reasons, according to the Winnipeg Sun.

 

Blues score four straight to down Stars

The St. Louis Blues scored four consecutive goals in a 4-1 preseason win against the Dallas Stars on Friday. 

Jason Spezza gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 8:49 of the first period. Colton Parayko tied the game with 1:02 left in the period.

Jordan Schmaltz and Dmitrij Jaskin scored in the second period, and Petteri Lindbohm had a third period goal for St. Louis. Jake Allen made 15 saves. 

Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 22 shots.

 

Grigorenko scores twice to propel Avalanche

Mikhail Grigorenko scored twice for the Colorado Avalanche in a 3-1 preseason win against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday. 

Nathan MacKinnon also scored for Colorado, and Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves. 

Trevor Lewis scored for Los Angeles, which outshot Colorado 34-22.

 

Tkachuk scores in Flames victory

Matthew Tkachuk scored a tiebreaking goal in the second period, and the Calgary Flames defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 in a preseason game Friday.

Tkachuk scored a power-play goal with 5:26 to go. Troy Brouwer scored in the first period, and Brian Elliott made 17 saves playing two periods for Calgary.

Guillaume Brisebois scored for Vancouver, and Thatcher Demko made 11 saves in a scoreless third period.

DeMelo's quick OT goal boosts Sharks

Defenseman Dylan DeMelo scored 40 seconds into overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 preseason win against the Arizona Coyotes at SAP Center on Friday. 

Ryan Carpenter and Tomas Hertl also scored for San Jose, and Aaron Dell made 20 saves. 

Jordan Martinook and Michael Bunting scored for Arizona, and Louis Domingue made 33 saves.
