WPG@VAN: Horvat goes five-hole to kick off scoring

Bo Horvat and Tanner Pearson each had a goal and an assist for the Vancouver Canucks in a 3-2 preseason win against the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Sunday.

Horvat made it 1-0 at 3:32 of the first period on a one-timer after goalie Mikhail Berdin (30 saves) gave away the puck to Pearson behind his net. Horvat then had the secondary assist on Pearson's goal that made it 3-1 at 12:35 of the third period.
Jeff Malott and Kristian Reichel each had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg, which is 1-2-1 in the preseason.
Jaroslav Halak started for Vancouver (2-2-0) and made nine saves before being replaced at the start of the third period by Michael Dipietro, who allowed one goal on eight shots.
Canucks forward Elias Pettersson (three years, $22 million) and defenseman Quinn Hughes (six years, $47.1 million) did not play after each signed a contract earlier in the day.

Stars 6, Coyotes 3: Joe Pavelski scored the go-ahead goal in the third period for the Dallas Stars in a 6-3 preseason win against the Arizona Coyotes in

Pavelski made it 4-3 at 4:02 with the second of four straight goals by the Stars.
The game was awarded to El Paso in 2020 but was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Jamie Benn had a goal and two assists, Miro Heiskanen had three assists, and Tyler Seguin and Thomas Harley each had a goal and an assist for the Stars, who won their first game of the preseason (1-2-1). Ty Dellandrea and Radek Faksa scored.
Shayne Gostisbehere, Liam O'Brien and Christian Fischer scored for the Coyotes, who lost for the first time (3-1-0).
Jake Oettinger made 14 saves for Dallas, and Josef Korenar made 28 for Arizona.

Balanced offensive attack leads Stars over Coyotes

Penguins 5, Red Wings 1:Kasperi Kapanen scored two goals, and Danton Heinen had a goal and two assists for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 5-1 preseason win against the Detroit Red Wings at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Kapanen put the Penguins ahead 2-0 at 12:56 of the first period after Jeff Carter opened the scoring at 3:45.
Heinen, who had the secondary assist on each goal, scored at 15:15 of the second period to extend the lead to 4-1. He signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh on July 29 after he wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by the Anaheim Ducks.
Kris Letang scored, Carter (one goal, one assist), John Marino (two assists) and Bryan Rust (two assists) each had two points, and Tristan Jarry made 25 saves for the Penguins.
Pius Suter scored a power-play goal for Detroit. Alex Nedeljkovic started and allowed four goals on 23 shots before being replaced after Heinen's goal by Victor Brattstrom, who made eight saves.
Penguins forward Jake Guentzel did not play after testing positive for COVID-19 prior to the game.
