CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Cam Ward made 36 saves and the Carolina Hurricanes got their offense going in a 4-0 preseason victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night.
Zac Dalpe and Jay Harrison both scored 69 seconds apart in the first period, and Jerome Samson and Riley Nash added second-period goals as Carolina won its first NHL exhibition game this season.
Carolina scored more goals in one game than it had scored in its previous two (3), both losses.
David Aebischer had 26 saves for Winnipeg, which fell to 1-3 in preseason games.
DETROIT (AP) - Todd Bertuzzi and Henrik Zetterberg scored shootout goals to propel Detroit past Chicago.
Valtteri Filppula had a goal and two assists and Zetterberg and Nicklas Lidstrom a goal and an assist apiece for Detroit. Ty Conklin made 21 saves.
Brandon Pirri had two goals and an assist and scored in the shootout for Chicago, and Jimmy Hayes added a goal and an assist. Alexander Salek stopped 30 shots.
Pirri's goal 9:23 into the third period tied the game at 3.
Detroit forward Jan Mursak fractured his left ankle late in the second period.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) - Joe Corvo and Brad Marchand each scored power-play goals to lift Boston over Montreal.
Zdeno Chara and Daniel Paille had short-handed scores for the Bruins, who posted five unanswered goals after falling behind early in the first period. Gregory Campbell, Tyler Seguin and Jordan Caron also scored.
Scott Gomez, Brian Willsie and Aaron Palushaj had the Canadiens' goals.
The teams meet again Monday night in Montreal.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) - Boston cashed took advantage of torrid special teams play and an inexperienced Montreal defense for the victory.
Power-play goals by Joe Corvo and Brad Marchand and short-handed goals by Daniel Paille and Zdeno Chara proved to be the undoing of the Canadiens, who led 1-0 just minutes into the game then surrendered five consecutive goals.
Gregory Campbell, Tyler Seguin and Jordan Caron also scored for the Bruins, who improved their preseason record to 2-1.
Scott Gomez, Brian Willsie and Aaron Palushaj answered for the Canadiens, who fell to 1-4 with the loss.
The two teams meet again Monday night in Montreal.
COLUMBUS (AP) - Dane Byers had a goal and two assists to lead Columbus to victory.
Grant Clitsome added a goal and an assist, and Jeff Carter and Ryan Johansen also scored for the Blue Jackets. Steve Mason made 19 saves.
Tyler Myers had the Sabres goal, and Ryan Miller stopped 23 shots.
