PHILADELPHIA - New captain Chris Pronger, recovering from two off-season surgeries, made his pre-season debut in the Flyers' 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
Pronger, who last played April 30 during a second-round playoff loss to the Boston Bruins, underwent procedures on his wrist and back. But general manager Paul Holmgren and coach Peter Laviolette are optimistic he'll be ready for the regular season. And on Thursday, he took a big step, registering an assist, one shot, two blocked shots, and even a 2:00 roughing penalty.
Jaromir Jagr, one of the Flyers' marquee off-season signings, scored the game winner, his fourth of the pre-season, on a power play at 12:48 of the third.
Martin Brodeur (25 saves) went the duration in goal for New Jersey. Flyers starter Ilya Bryzgalov was replaced at 10:30 of the second by Sergei Bobrovsky after 17 stops.
Stephane Veilleux scored for New Jersey.
MONTREAL (AP) ? Steven Stamkos scored two goals in the first period and Dwayne Roloson made 24 saves to lead Tampa Bay over Montreal.
Brett Connolly also scored twice for Tampa Bay (3-2).
Stamkos, who entered with three assists, got his first goal in four games when he scored off a rebound 3:47 into the game. He made it 2-0 at 11:51 with a one-timer past Peter Budaj off a feed from Martin St. Louis.
ST. LOUIS (AP) ??? T.J. Oshie scored a tiebreaking power-play in the third period and St. Louis beat Colorado.
David Backes and Patrik Berglund also scored goals and Andy McDonald had two assists for the Blues, who have won five of seven games.
Joakim Lindstrom scored for Colorado, which has dropped three of four.
Ben Bishop stopped 18 shots for St. Louis, and the Avalanche's Jean-Sebastien Giguere finished with 29 saves.
BOSTON (AP) ??? David Rundblad scored a power-play goal with 4:01 remaining to lift Ottawa over Boston.
Daniel Alfredsson also scored for the Senators, who were outshot 39-20.
Milan Lucic scored on the power play about midway through the first period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. He converted a pass to the net by linemate Nathan Horton as Boston had a 20-5 advantage on shots in the opening period.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ??? Fedor Tyutin and Cam Atkinson each had a goal and an assist and Columbus beat Minnesota.
Rick Nash and Jeff Carter also scored for Columbus, and Tomas Kubalik and Antoine Vermette both had two assists.
Guillaume Latendresse and Mikko Koivu scored for Minnesota.
Steve Mason had 32 saves for Columbus. Minnesota's Josh Harding stopped 22 shots.

Alex Goligoski connected on the go-ahead goal in the second period for the Stars and contributed three assists.
Stephane Robidas, Goligoski's defensive partner, added a power-play goal. Loui Eriksson and Vernon Fiddler also scored for Dallas.
Trevor Daley contributed a power-play goal at 14:15 of the third period while Dallas skated 5 on 3, and Tom Wandell's goal with 1:36 left completed the rout.
Rookie Jonathan Huberdeau scored his third goal of the pre-season for the Panthers, whose regular season begins at the Islanders on Oct. 8.

Calgary had the second-best power play in the league at home last season and it showed flashes of that prowess in the second period, connecting twice with the extra man to open up a 2-0 lead.
Moss opened the scoring at 11:47 of the second on a backhand after being neatly set up by a clever passing sequence between Niklas Hagman and Olli Jokinen.
Anton Babchuk made it 2-0 in the final minute of the second, sending a slap shot past Jason LaBarbera, who was screened by Curtis Glencross.
Boyd Gordon and Ray Whitney scored for Phoenix, both goals against Miikka Kiprusoff coming in the final four minutes of the game.
Kiprusoff, who played his first full game, ended up with 21 saves.

Joe Thornton assisted on the first two goals as the Sharks used their regulars for longer periods on the ice. Ryane Clowe added his team-leading fourth assist on the final goal.
The Canucks (2-5), who lost to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night, again choose to keep many of their stars off the ice. Mikael Samuelsson and Manny Malhotra were the only Canucks to play who recorded double figures in goals last season.
