Super 16: Capitals, Hurricanes make big jumps; Lightning stay at No. 1

Two Metropolitan Division teams made the biggest moves up the Super 16 this week.
The Washington Capitals moved up three spots to No. 6, and the Carolina Hurricanes jumped four spots to No. 11, giving the Metropolitan Division four teams in the top 11, including the New York Islanders at No. 9 and the Pittsburgh Penguins at No. 10.

The Metropolitan Division leads the rankings this week with five teams in the Super 16. The Central Division has four, with the Dallas Stars replacing the Minnesota Wild at No. 16. The Atlantic Division also has four teams ranked, including three in the top five, and the Pacific Division has three, including two in the top four.
To create the power rankings, each of the 13 staff members puts together his or her version of what the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.
Here is latest Super 16:

1. Tampa Bay Lightning (51-12-4)

Total points: 208
Last week: No. 1
Hit: The Lightning are 12-1-0 and have outscored the opposition 54-26 since Feb. 9.
Miss: Nothing here.

2. Boston Bruins (40-17-9)

Total points: 189
Last week:No. 2
Hit:The Bruins are 13-0-4 in their past 17 games. They haven't lost in regulation since losing 3-2 to the New York Rangers on Jan. 19.
Miss:Forward Marcus Johansson sustained a lung contusion when he was hit by Carolina Hurricanes forward Micheal Ferland in the first period Tuesday. He stayed overnight at Massachusetts General Hospital and was discharged Wednesday. He will be re-evaluated in one week.

3. Calgary Flames (41-19-7)

Total points:181
Last week: No. 3
Hit: Johnny Gaudreau has five points, all assists, in the past five games. The forward is sixth in the NHL with 84 points (30 goals, 54 assists).
Miss: The Flames have been held to two goals or fewer in six of their past seven games, including a 2-1 loss at the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. It's a significant dip in scoring for a team that averages 3.49 goals per game, fourth in the NHL.

4. San Jose Sharks (39-19-8)

Total points: 163
Last week: No. 4
Hit: The Sharks are 19-3-4 at SAP Center since Nov. 3, including each of their past two games without defenseman Erik Karlsson (groin) and forward Evander Kane (undisclosed). Ten of their remaining 16 games will be at home.
Miss: Karlsson and Kane each could miss a third straight game when the Sharks play the Montreal Canadiens at SAP Center on Thursday (10:30 p.m. RT; NBCSCA, TSN2, RDS, NHL.TV).

5. Toronto Maple Leafs (41-21-5)

Total points:141
Last week: No. 5
Hit: The Maple Leafs have 20 road wins, matching their total from last season in nine fewer games. They are 20-9-4 on the road this season after going 20-16-5 in 2017-18.
Miss: They're missing defensemen Travis Dermott and Jake Gardiner because of injuries. Dermott (shoulder) has missed the past four games. Gardiner (back) has missed five in a row.

6. Washington Capitals (39-21-7)

Total points: 138
Last week:No. 9
Hit: The Capitals have 54 points (25-10-4) against Eastern Conference opponents, second behind the Lightning (68), following their 5-3 win at the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. Thirteen of their remaining 15 games are against the East.
Miss: Prior to playing the Flyers, the Capitals had allowed the first goal in the first four minutes of the first period in five straight games, including twice in the first minute against the New York Rangers.

7. Nashville Predators (39-25-5)

Total points: 131
Last week: No. 7
Hit:The Predators, who have won back-to-back games against the Wild in shootouts, also have scored two power-play goals in the past three games (2-for-6), both on shots by defenseman P.K. Subban; he scored one and had an assist on the other. They were 1-for-23 in their previous seven games.
Miss: The Predators have gone six straight games without a regulation win since defeating the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 at Bridgestone Arena on Feb. 21. Their three wins since have come in shootouts.

8. Winnipeg Jets (39-23-4)

Total points:127
Last week: No. 6
Hit: Jets captain Blake Wheeler has six goals in the past three games, including four in a 5-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
Miss: Winnipeg has allowed six power-play goals in its past four games, going 7-for-13 on the penalty kill. They are 25th in the League on the penalty kill at 78.3 percent.

9. New York Islanders (38-21-7)

Total points: 112
Last week:No. 8
Hit: Andrew Ladd had assists in his first three games after coming off injured reserve. The left wing, who did not have a point in the Islanders' 5-4 shootout win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, missed 44 games with a lower-body injury sustained Nov. 13.
Miss: Goalie Robin Lehner had to leave the game against the Senators after Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored to tie it at 4-4 with 4:40 remaining in the third period. There hasn't been an update yet, but the Islanders recalled goalie Christopher Gibson from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.

10. Pittsburgh Penguins (35-22-9)

Total points: 79
Last week:No. 11
Hit: The Penguins are 7-2-2 since Feb. 11 and defenseman Brian Dumoulin returned to the lineup in a 3-2 win against the Florida Panthers after missing three games because of a concussion.
Miss: Pittsburgh still is missing defensemen Kris Letang (upper body), Olli Maatta (shoulder) and Chad Ruhwedel (upper body). Forward Bryan Rust (lower body) also is out.

11. Carolina Hurricanes (36-23-7)

Total points:77
Last week: No. 15
Hit: Sebastian Aho has five goals in the past four games, giving him 29 goals and 75 points in 66 games this season. The first-line center has a point in 47 of Carolina's 66 games; the Hurricanes are 30-11-6 when he gets a point and 6-12-1 when he doesn't.
Miss: Ferland sustained an upper-body injury against the Bruins on Tuesday.

12. St. Louis Blues (35-25-6)

Total points:66
Last week: No. 10
Hit: The Blues are 24-6-3 in games when a defenseman scores at least one goal, the second-most wins in the NHL behind the Flames (25-3-4). St. Louis also has 41 goals from defensemen this season, tied for most in the League with the Minnesota Wild.
Miss: St. Louis had nine goals in its six previous games before its 5-4 win at the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. Forward Vladimir Tarasenko has no goals in six straight games after scoring nine in his previous eight.

13. Vegas Golden Knights (37-26-5)

Total points: 61
Last week: No. 13
Hit: The Golden Knights have won five in a row and averaged 3.75 goals per game in the first four wins of their streak before their 2-1 victory against the Flames on Wednesday.
Miss: Forward Alex Tuch has one goal in 17 games since Jan. 23.

14. Montreal Canadiens (36-24-7)

Total points: 41
Last week:No. 14
Hit:Forward Brendan Gallagher has a goal in four straight games, giving him 30 in 67 games this season. He scored an NHL career-high 31 in 82 games in 2017-18.
Miss:Montreal's power-play struggles aren't going away. The Canadiens are 0-for-10 in their past five games and 1-for-25 in their past 11.

15. Columbus Blue Jackets (37-26-3)

Total points: 28
Last week: No. 15
Hit: The Blue Jackets have won six of their past seven road games. They play 10 of their final 16 games on the road, including at the Penguins on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TVAS, ATTSN-PT, NHL.TV).
Miss:Center Matt Duchene has three points (one goal, two assists) in seven games with the Blue Jackets since coming to Columbus in a trade from the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 22.

16. Dallas Stars (34-27-5)

Total points:18
Last week: NR
Hit: The Stars have won three in a row and four of their past five games (4-1-0) after losing four of their previous five (1-4-0). Defenseman John Klingberg has five points (two goals, three assists) in the past three games.
Miss: Andrew Cogliano has joined the Stars' list of injured players. The 31-year-old forward has missed the past three games with an upper-body injury. Cogliano, who could return against the Colorado Avalanche at American Airlines Center on Thursday (8:30 p.m. ET; FS-SW, ALT, NHL.TV), previously had not missed a game because of injury in his NHL career. He played in 929 of a possible 931 games, missing two last season because of a suspension.
