Super 16: Blues return to power rankings for first time since October

The St. Louis Blues have used a seven-game winning streak to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoff race and into the Super 16 rankings (No. 15) for the first time since the opening week of the season.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were the other big gainer this week, rising three spots to No. 11.
The Tampa Bay Lightning remained the unanimous No. 1 choice with the San Jose Sharks climbing two spots to No.2. The Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs rounded out the top five.
To create the power rankings, each of the 13 staff members puts together his or her version of what the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.
Here is the latest Super 16:

1. Tampa Bay Lightning (42-11-4)

Total points: 208
Last week: No. 1
Hit: After being limited to no goals and six assists in 10 games, forward Nikita Kucherov has seven points (three goals, four assists) in his past two games for the Lightning, 5-0-2 in their past seven games.
Miss: None

2. San Jose Sharks (34-16-7)

Total points: 187
Last week: No. 4
Hit: Forward Evander Kane has seven points (five goals, two assists) in a three-game point streak. The Sharks have won six straight and have allowed two goals in each of their past five games.
Miss: Defenseman Erik Karlsson has missed eight straight games with a lower-body injury and has not played since he took part in the 2019 Honda NHL All-Star Game; he's day to day.

3. Winnipeg Jets (36-18-3)

Total points: 184
Last week: No. 3
Hit: Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien returned Feb. 7 after missing 15 games because of a lower-body injury.
Miss: Goalie Connor Hellebuyck, last season's Vezina Trophy runner-up, has allowed at least three goals in seven of his past eight starts.

4. Calgary Flames (34-16-6)

Total points: 169
Last week: No. 2
Hit: The Flames have five players with at least 55 points, including four with at least 24 goals (forward Johnny Gaudreau and center Sean Monahan, 29; forwards Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk, 24).
Miss: Calgary has lost three straight games for the third time this season, including being outscored 11-5 by the Sharks and Lightning. Tkachuk, their fourth-leading scorer, has no points in his past six games.

5. Toronto Maple Leafs (35-18-3)

Total points: 148
Last week: No. 6
Hit: Forward William Nylander has four points (two goals, two assists) in his past five games after having seven points (one goal, six assists) in his first 23 games this season.
Miss: Defenseman Morgan Rielly has one goal since Dec. 23 (19 games) after having 13 in his first 37 games this season.

6. New York Islanders (33-17-6)

Total points: 132
Last week: No. 7
Hit: Goalie Thomas Greiss is 4-0-1 in his past five games and has allowed three goals on 157 shots (.981 save percentage).
Miss: The Islanders, who have lost three of their past four on the road (1-2-1), play four of their next five games away from home.

7. Nashville Predators (33-21-5)

Total points: 130
Last week: No. 5
Hit: Center Ryan Johansen (eight points; two goals, six assists) and forward Filip Forsberg (two goals, three assists) each has a five-game point streak.
Miss: The Predators are 3-for-48 (6.3 percent) on the power play in their past 14 games and rank last in the League on the power play (13.1 percent).

8. Boston Bruins (32-17-8)

Total points: 129
Last week: No. 8
Hit: Forward Brad Marchand has 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in a five-game multipoint streak.
Miss: Forward David Pastrnak will miss at least two weeks after sustaining a left thumb injury on Sunday.

9. Montreal Canadiens (31-18-7)

Total points: 90
Last week: No. 10
Hit: Forward Jonathan Drouin has nine points (three goals, six assists) and is plus-7 in his past four games.
Miss: Special teams have been a problem this season; the Canadiens rank 30th on the power play (13.5 percent) and 20th on the penalty kill (79.3 percent).

10. Washington Capitals (31-19-7)

Total points: 84
Last week: No. 9
Hit: Center Evgeny Kuznetsov has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in his past five games.
Miss: The Capitals play 10 of their next 13 games on the road, where they have 14 wins in 26 games this season.

11. Columbus Blue Jackets (32-20-3)

Hit: Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has won his past four starts and has allowed eight goals on 104 shots (.923 save percentage).
Miss: Forward Nick Foligno has one goal in his past five games and three points (two goals, one assist) in his past 10.

12. Vegas Golden Knights (31-23-4)

Total points: 66

Hit: The Golden Knights rank in the top five in the NHL in shots per game (33.5, third) and shots against per game (28.6, second).
Miss: Vegas is 2-6-0 in its past eight games and has scored two or fewer goals in regulation in six of them.

13. Pittsburgh Penguins (30-20-7)

Hit: Defenseman Kris Letang has eight points (two goals, six assists) and is plus-4 in his past seven games.
Miss: Already without defenseman Justin Schultz (fractured left leg), the Penguins will be without Olli Maatta indefinitely because of an upper-body injury.

Hit: Center Tyler Seguin has 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in his past eight games.
Miss: Forward Valeri Nichushkin does not have a goal in 40 games this season, and goalie Ben Bishop has missed the past three games with a lower-body injury.
