Super 16: Flyers biggest climber in power rankings

The Philadelphia Flyers made the biggest jump in the weekly Super 16 power rankings, moving up six spots to No. 7 this week on the heels of a four-game winning streak.

The Flyers, who are 13-2-4 at Wells Fargo Center, tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for second in the League in points earned at home with 30 (Boston Bruins, 34), have scored 20 goals (including shootouts) during their win streak.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, winners of five straight games, and the Nashville Predators, who are 4-0-1 in their past five, each got into the Super 16 this week after being out for several weeks. The Maple Leafs are No. 12 and the Predators are No. 14.
To create the power rankings, each of the participating staff members puts together his or her version of what the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.
Here is the latest Super 16:

1. Washington Capitals (26-7-5)

Total points: 188
Last week: No. 1
Hit:Forward Tom Wilson has four assists in the past three games and six points (one goal, five assists) in the past six games.
Miss:The Capitals are 0-for-15 on the power play in their past five games, including 0-for-5 in a 7-3 loss against the Boston Bruins on Monday, when they also allowed a shorthanded goal. They are 2-for-28 (7.1 percent) in 10 December games.

2. St. Louis Blues (24-8-6)

Total points: 176
Last week:No. 3
Hit:The Blues have won six games in a row, outscoring the opposition 24-11 in the process. They have won 10 of their past 13 games (10-3-0). They also have won eight in a row against Western Conference opponents.
Miss:Nothing.

3. Boston Bruins (22-7-9)

Total points:172
Last week: No. 2
Hit:The Bruins are 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) on the power play during their five-game point streak (2-0-3) since Dec. 14. Five players have accounted for the six power play goals. Center Patrice Bergeron has two.
Miss:The Bruins are 0-4 in games that extend beyond regulation this month. They have lost three in overtime and one in a shootout.

4. Colorado Avalanche (23-11-3)

Total points:152
Last week: No. 4
Hit:The Avalanche lead the League with 96 goals through the first two periods this season. They are first in goals in the first (44) and second (52) periods. They are tied with the Capitals for first in the League with 134 goals.
Miss:Rookie defenseman Cale Makar has missed eight straight games with an upper-body injury. He is, however, possible to play against the Minnesota Wild on Friday.

5. New York Islanders (23-9-3)

Total points:134
Last week:No. 5
Hit:Mathew Barzal has goals in three straight games. The center has five points (three goals, two assists) during a three-game point streak, including a goal and an assist in each of the past two games.
Miss:Cal Clutterbuck is out indefinitely following surgery on his left wrist Friday. The forward has missed the past two games, a 6-5 shootout loss against the Anaheim Ducks and a 3-2 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

6. Pittsburgh Penguins (21-11-4)

Total points:115
Last week: No. 7
Hit:Tristan Jarry has allowed two goals or fewer in 10 of his 14 starts this season. He is 11-5-0 with a 1.86 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and three shutouts in 16 games.
Miss:Matt Murray has allowed at least four goals in five of his six stars since Nov. 19. He is 1-2-2 with an .832 save percentage and 4.40 GAA in those games.

7. Philadelphia Flyers (21-11-5)

Total points:110
Last week:No. 13
Hit:The Flyers have scored four goals in each game of their four-game win streak. They're 5-for-16 (31.2 percent) on the power play in the past three games. Carter Hart has allowed one goal in each of his past three starts.
Miss:Brian Elliott has allowed 10 goals on 51 shots in his past two starts.

8. Carolina Hurricanes (22-13-2)

Total points:109
Last week:No. 6
Hit:The Hurricanes are 10-for-26 (38.5 percent) on the power play in their past eight games. They also have scored four shorthanded goals in the past eight games.
Miss:Petr Mrazek has allowed 11 goals on 86 shots (.872 save percentage) in his past three games, including four on 18 shots in the third period of an 8-6 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

9. Vegas Golden Knights (20-14-6)

Total points: 98
Last week:No. 10
Hit:Forwards Max Pacioretty (six goals, five assists) and Mark Stone (two goals, nine assists) each have 11 points in the past eight games. Pacioretty leads Vegas with 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists). Stone is second with 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists).
Miss:Forward Alex Tuch has two points, both assists, in the nine games since Dec. 8. He had seven points (four goals, three assists) in a four-game stretch from Nov. 29-Dec. 5.

10. Arizona Coyotes (21-14-4)

Total points:89
Last week: No. 9
Hit:Clayton Keller has points in four straight games (three goals, three assists). The forward has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 12 games since Nov. 30.
Miss:Darcy Kuemper is week-to-week with a lower-body injury sustained Dec. 19. The goalie has been a Vezina Trophy candidate all season, going 15-8-2 with a 2.17 GAA and .929 save percentage in 25 games.

11. Winnipeg Jets (21-14-2)

Total points: 80
Last week:No. 8
Hit:Patrik Laine has six goals in the past seven games. The forward has 14 goals in 35 games this season.
Miss:The Jets allowed 16 goals, including four power-play goals, in losses against the Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens since Dec. 17.

12. Toronto Maple Leafs (20-14-4)

Total points: 68
Last week:NR
Hit:The Maple Leafs have outscored the opposition 15-6 in the third period in their past five games, all wins, including 11-2 in the past three.
Miss:The only negative in the past five games is they've allowed four power-play goals, going 8-for-12 on the penalty kill (66.7 percent).

13. Dallas Stars (20-14-4)

Total points:36
Last week: No. 11
Hit:Dennis Gurianov has goals in two straight games and points in three in a row (two goals, one assist). The 22-year-old forward has 13 points (eight goals, five assists) in 33 games.
Miss:Ben Bishop has allowed 10 goals on 49 shots in his past two games, a 7-4 loss against the Florida Panthers and 5-1 loss against the Calgary Flames.

14. Nashville Predators (18-12-6)

Total points: 31

Hit:Defenseman Roman Josi has accounted for seven of the Predators 24 goals in their past five games, including at least one in each game.
Miss:Matt Duchene has four points (one goal, three assists) 11 games since Nov. 30. The forward had 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in his first 24 games.

15. Edmonton Oilers (20-16-4)

Total points: 27

Hit:Mikko Koskinen has allowed 12 goals in five starts since Dec. 14, posting a .926 save percentage (151 saves on 163 shots) and a 2.44 goals-against average.
Miss:The Oilers are 2-6-1 in nine games since Dec. 8, scoring 12 goals at 5-on-5.

16. Calgary Flames (19-15-5)

Hit:Forwards Matthew Tkachuk (two goals, three assists) and Elias Lindholm (one goal, four assists) each have five points in the past three games.
Miss:The Flames are last in the NHL in goals in the first period with 22. They are 1-3-1 since winning seven in a row and getting points in nine straight games (8-0-1).
