NHL players get in spooky spirit, break out Halloween costumes

As Halloween approaches, hockey players are dressing up as anything but that.

There's been no shortage of notable Halloween costumes.

Who wore it better? Actor Ryan Reynolds, Gritty or Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tyson Barrie.

Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau brought the joke(r)s.

Some New York Rangers players got together to pay homage to the 2004 comedy "Dodgeball."

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Jake McCabe channeled his super-strength powers by dressing up as Mr. Incredible. The rest of his family dressed the part, too. Gabriella McCabe was Elastigirl and their daughter was Violet. Their baby son was Jack-Jack, even sporting the gelled, swirled hairdo atop his head.

The Boston Bruins showed the world, yet again, that they're Halloween ghouls. Captain Patrice Bergeron and forward Brad Marchand dressed up as the iconic duo of Mario and Luigi, and their entourage followed.
Goalie Jeremy Swayman was Bowser, goalie Linus Ullmark was Toad, defenseman Brandon Carlo was Donkey Kong, defenseman Derek Forbort was Princess Peach, forward Charlie Coyle was Yoshi and forward Nick Foligno was Wario. The team dressed up to cheer up patients at local hospitals,
a tradition they've done the past 12 years

They struck again as the cast of Shrek.

St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko had the same idea as Marchand and dressed up as Luigi, even if he only put half the elbow grease into the costume. But forward Jake Neighbours was a sight to behold as a hot dog (no ketchup, add lettuce).

On the Philadelphia Flyers, forwards Zack MacEwen, Wade Allison and defensemen Nick Seeler and Egor Zamula

-- though not in a group costume -- to hand out candy at Shriners Children's Hospital.
Even after the fact, the Pittsburgh Penguins got in on the fun. Captain Sidney Crosby went with the Ted Lasso costume.
