Jack Campbell On Tap 4.10

Welcome to the NHL On Tap. Three NHL.com writers will share what they are most looking forward to on the schedule each day. Today, their choices from the 10 games Saturday.

Campbell, Maple Leafs look to stay hot

Jack Campbell has become one of the most compelling stories in the NHL. The Toronto Maple Leafs goalie enters the game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday with a 10-0-0 record, 1.57 goals-against average and .944 save percentage this season. Campbell set the Maple Leafs record for longest win streak by a goalie when he made 32 saves in a 3-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, Toronto's fifth consecutive victory. He will set the NHL record for the longest win streak to start a season with a victory against the Senators at home Saturday (7 p.m. ET; CBC, SNO, SNP, TVAS2, NHL.TV). He's currently tied with Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price, who started the 2016-17 season with 10 straight wins. A win also moves Campbell one closer to matching Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy's 12-game winning streak for longest in the NHL this season. Campbell was selected by the Dallas Stars with the No. 11 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, but his path to the record books wound through the Ontario Hockey League, American Hockey League and ECHL before he finally established himself in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings two seasons ago. His story has become great theater and must-watch television. -- Dan Rosen, senior writer

Trocheck, Hurricanes rolling along

Vincent Trocheck will look to score a point in his 13th straight game when the Carolina Hurricanes host the Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m. ET; BSSO, BSDET+, NHL.TV). Trocheck scored a goal and had an assist in a 3-0 win against the Florida Panthers on Thursday and has scored a point in 12 straight games he's played (seven goals, 10 assists); he missed eight with an upper-body injury. Carolina has won three straight games and is 14-2-3 at home. Hurricanes goalie Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves for his third shutout in 15 starts this season, the most by an NHL rookie. In his past 12 starts, Nedeljkovic is 8-3-1 with a 1.66 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and three shutouts. Only one rookie goalie in Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers history has had more shutouts in a single season: Hartford's Peter Sidorkiewicz (four; 1988-89). The Red Wings begin their two-game set with the Hurricanes having lost two straight (0-1-1) against the Nashville Predators. Detroit goalie Jonathan Bernier returned to the lineup after missing the past 10 games with a lower-body injury and allowed seven goals on 32 shots in a 7-1 loss to Nashville on Thursday. -- Mike G. Predators seek to maintain momentum

The Predators look to continue the surge that has taken them to fourth place in the Discover Central Division when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday (8 p.m. ET; ESPN+, BSSO, BSSUN, NHL.TV). Powered by Viktor Arvidsson's third career hat trick, the Predators defeated the Red Wings on Thursday and are 11-2-0 in their past 13 games. That has fueled their rise fourth in the eight-team division, four points ahead of the fifth-place Chicago Blackhawks. The top four teams will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The game against the Lightning begins a two-game series; they also play Tuesday. Tampa Bay leads the season series 5-1-0 and has scored 25 goals in its five wins against Nashville. The Lightning are tied for second in the division with the Florida Panthers, one point behind the division-leading Hurricanes. Tampa Bay rookie forward Ross Colton scored in a 6-4 win at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday. Colton, who has scored nine points (six goals, three assists) in 14 games this season, has scored in four of the past five games. The Lightning and Predators are the only teams in the NHL this season with a perfect record when leading after two periods; Tampa Bay is 20-0-0 and Nashville is 10-0-0. -- Tim Campbell, staff writer
