Foligno skates into history-sharing 1,000th NHL game

Nick Foligno is expected to play his 1,000th NHL game when the Boston Bruins visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday (8:30 p.m. ET; SN1, SNE (JIP), SNO, TVAS, NBCSCH, NESN, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). Once he steps on the ice for his first shift, he will share a piece of NHL history with his father,

, who played 1,018 games. They will join Bobby Hull and Brett Hull as the only father-and-son duos to each have played 1,000 regular-season games in the NHL. Foligno has scored 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 42 games with the Bruins this season and 497 points (205 goals, 292 assists) in 999 games with the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Bruins. Ovechkin tries again to pass Jagr on goals list

for sole possession of third place on the NHL goals list when the Washington Capitals return from a three-game Western Canada road trip to host the New York Islanders (7 p.m. ET; SNE, SNO, SNP, NBCSWA, MSG+, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). Ovechkin has been tied with Jagr at 766 goals since he scored twice for Washington (32-18-10) against the Calgary Flames on March 8. Over the course of 17 seasons in the NHL, Ovechkin has scored 41 goals in 63 games against the Islanders (24-24-8). New York is seeking its fourth straight win, outscoring opponents 15-5 in the past three games. Maple Leafs without Matthews host Stars

The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost four of six (2-3-1) and will try to turn things around when they host the Dallas Stars (7 p.m. ET; TSN4, BSSW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). The Maple Leafs (37-17-5) are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres at the 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Sunday and will be without center Auston Matthews, who leads the NHL with 45 goals. Matthews was suspended two games on Monday by the NHL Department of Player Safety for cross-checking Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. Toronto has struggled defensively, allowing at least four goals in six straight games and 10 of its past 12 (5-5-2). The Stars (32-22-3) have been led by forward Jason Robertson, who has scored nine goals in his past seven games and 30 this season, and forward Joe Pavelski, who leads the team with 60 points (23 goals, 37 assists). -- David Satriano, staff writer

Dallas Stars at Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m. ET; TSN4, BSSW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Dallas has lost two straight since a four-game winning streak and looks for better success on the road, where they are 12-14-2 this season. Erik Kallgren will make his first NHL start for Toronto.
Arizona Coyotes at Montreal Canadiens (7 p.m. ET; TSN2, RDS, BSAZX, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun will be out 2-4 weeks because of a lower-body injury for the Coyotes (19-36-4), who have won five of their past six games. Forward Lawson Crouse scored a hat trick in Arizona's 5-3 win against the Ottawa Senators on Monday. The Canadiens (16-35-8) rank last in the NHL in goals per game (2.46) but have scored 24 goals in their past six games (4.00 goals per game).
Anaheim Ducks vs. New York Rangers (7 p.m. ET; MSG, BSSC, BSSD, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Forward Artemi Panarin scored five points in a 7-4 win for the Rangers (37-17-5) at the Stars on Saturday and has scored nine points (one goal, eight assists) in his past four games. New York has not played at home since March 4 and is 19-5-3 at Madison Square Garden this season. Forward Adam Henrique has scored five goals in his past seven games for the Ducks (27-25-10), who have been outscored 17-8 in their past four games (0-3-1).
New York Islanders at Washington Capitals (7 p.m. ET; SNE, SNO, SNP, NBCSWA, MSG+, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
This is the second game this season between the Metropolitan Division rivals; the Capitals defeated the Islanders 2-0 on Jan. 15. Washington forward Evgeny Kuznetsov has scored seven points (four goals, three assists) during a five-game point streak, including a hat trick against the Vancouver Canucks on March 11. Forward Anthony Beauvillier has seven assists in his past four games for New York.
Pittsburgh Penguins at Nashville Predators (8 p.m. ET; BSSO, ATTSN-PT, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Forward Sidney Crosby seeks to extend his point streak to 10 games (six goals, six assists) for the Penguins (36-15-9), who defeated the Vegas Golden Knights (5-2) and Carolina Hurricanes (4-2) on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Predators (34-21-4) have won four of five. Nashville forward Filip Forsberg has scored four goals and eight points in his past four games and teammate forward Matt Duchene has scored eight goals in his past six games, with four two-goal games.
Vegas Golden Knights at Winnipeg Jets (8 p.m. ET; TSN3, ATTSN-RM, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
The Golden Knights (32-25-4) seek to avoid a season-high five-game losing streak and are 4-9-1 in their past 14 games. Vegas forward Jonathan Marchessault has scored at least one point in eight of his past nine games (five goals, seven assists). Forward Kyle Connor is fourth in the NHL with 37 goals for the Jets (27-23-10) and has a four-game goal streak.
Boston Bruins at Chicago Blackhawks (8:30 p.m. ET; SN1, SNE (JIP), SNO (JIP), TVAS, NBCSCH, NESN, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane is on a six-game point streak (three goals, 12 assists) and was named NHL First Star of the Week ending March 13. He has scored 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in his past three games, including six points in an 8-3 win against the Ducks on March 8. Bruins forward Charlie Coyle has scored five points (two goals, three assists) during a three-game point streak.
Detroit Red Wings at Edmonton Oilers (9 p.m. ET; SNW, BSDETX, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
The Red Wings (24-28-7) have lost five straight (0-4-1) in which they've been outscored 26-10. Forward Jakub Vrana has scored three goals in three games since making his season debut March 8. The Oilers (32-23-4) are coming off impressive wins against the Capitals on Wednesday (4-3 in overtime) and Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday (4-1). Forward Zach Hyman has not scored in his past eight games since a five-game goal streak.
New Jersey Devils at Vancouver Canucks (10 p.m. ET; SNP, MSG+, MSG+2, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
New Jersey begins a three-game Western Canada road trip at Vancouver, which they defeated 7-2 at home Feb. 28. Devils forward Jack Hughes had a goal and an assist to remain undefeated (3-0-0) in the NHL against his older brother, Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes. The Devils (22-32-5) have won 12 straight games against the Canucks; their last loss (2-0) came Nov. 25, 2014. The Canucks (29-24-7) are 1-1-1 on a season-high-tying, seven-game homestand.
Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings (10:30 p.m. ET; BSW, ALT, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Josh Manson will make his Avalanche debut after the defenseman was acquired in a trade with the Ducks on Monday. Colorado had lost four of five games prior to a 3-0 shutout against the Calgary Flames on Sunday. Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals in that game and has points in 13 of his past 14 games (12 goals, seven assists). The Kings (33-20-8) have won nine of 13 (9-3-1) but were without forwards Viktor Arvidsson (lower body) and Dustin Brown (upper body), and defensemen Drew Doughty (upper body) and Mikey Anderson (upper body) in a 3-2 shootout win against the Florida Panthers on Sunday.
Florida Panthers at San Jose Sharks (10:30 p.m. ET; ESPN+, HULU, NHL LIVE)
Florida forward Joe Thornton will play his first game in San Jose after leaving the Sharks to sign with the Maple Leafs on Oct. 16, 2020. Thornton is second on the Sharks all-time with 1,055 points in 1,104 games. Forward Jonathan Huberdeau has eight assists in the past five games for the Panthers (40-13-6) and is tied with Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid for the NHL lead in points (83). Florida has won five of six and scored at least three goals in 16 of its past 18 games. The Sharks (26-25-7) try for their third straight win for the first time since Jan. 6-11.
