ESPN The Point Premieres October 7th

ESPN is taking the NHL back to the future.

To celebrate the return of live NHL broadcasts to ESPN, the network ran a goose-bump raising promo on Thursday narrated by Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Messier.
The two-and-a-half-minute spot aired ahead of "The Point," ESPN's new studio show dedicated to NHL action.
It starts at the beginning, with the late Tom Mees kicking off ESPN's first broadcast of the NHL. Then a peek through the ESPN hockey archives is intercut with some of the more memorable and emotional moments from the network's coverage.
A perfectly chosen press conference clip appears in the video, right in the middle. It's from Wayne Gretzky during his stint with the New York Rangers.
"Time does something to you," Gretzky says in the clip. "It's time."
From there on out, it's highlights from past games, incredible photos and celebrations of Stanley Cup champions.
From there it's a look forward to the 2020-21 season on ESPN. The video ends with Messier saying, simply, "welcome home."
