Tavares heading to Maple Leafs

John Tavares signed a seven-year, $77 million contract, an average annual value of $11 million, with the Toronto Maple Leafs

The 27-year-old center, who became an unrestricted free agent Sunday, tweeted that it was "time to live my childhood dream here in Toronto."

Tavares, who is from the Toronto area, played the first nine seasons of his NHL career with the New York Islanders and has been their captain since the start of the 2013-14 season.

Stastny signs with Golden Knights

Center Paul Stastny is heading to the Vegas Golden Knights. No terms of the contract were released. Stastny had 53 points (16 goals, 37 assists) in 82 games with the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues last season, including 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 19 games with Winnipeg after he was acquired in a trade Feb. 26.

 

Doughty, Couture get extensions

In addition to a frenzy of free agent signings Sunday, players who could have become free agents on July 1, 2019, signed extensions.

Defenseman Drew Doughty signed an eight-year extension with the Los Angeles Kings.

Defenseman Ryan McDonagh signed a seven-year extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson signed an eight-year extension with the Arizona Coyotes.

Forward Logan Couture signed an eight-year extension with the San Jose Sharks.

Here are some of the more notable contracts announced Sunday:

Defenseman Mike Green is staying with the Detroit Red Wings after signing a two-year contract.

Forward Thomas Vanek signed a one-year contract with the Red Wings.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier signed a three-year contract with the Red Wings.

Forward Chris Kunitz agreed to a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Goaltender Cam Ward agreed to a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks

Forward Tomas Plekanec signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens.

Forward Jared McCann agreed to a two-year contract with the Florida Panthers.

Forward Tyler Bozak signed a three-year contract with the St. Louis Blues.

Forward Valeri Nichushkin signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars.

Forward David Perron signed a four-year contract with the St. Louis Blues.

Goaltender Petr Mrazek agreed to a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Goalie Chad Johnson signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues.

Defenseman Brandon Manning agreed to a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Defeneman Ian Cole signed a two-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche.

Goaltender Carter Hutton agreed to a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Forward Matt Cullen signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Defenseman Jack Johnson signed a five-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Forward Jay Beagle signed a four-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks.

Goaltender Anton Khudobin signed a two-year contact with the Dallas Stars.

Defenseman Roman Polak signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars.

Forward Matt Calvert signed a three-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche.

Forward Ilya Kovalchuk signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Forward James van Riemsdyk agreed to a five-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Forward Antoine Roussel signed a four-year contract with the Canucks.

Forward Blake Comeau signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Stars.

Forward Michael Grabner signed a three-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes.

Forward Tobias Rieder signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Forward Kyle Brodziak signed a two-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Defenseman John Moore signed a five-year contract with the Boston Bruins.

Goaltender Jaroslav Halak signed a two-year contract with the Boston Bruins.

Forward Ryan Reaves re-signed with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Forward Riley Nash signed a three-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Defenseman Nick Holden signed with the Vegas Golden Knights.
