The Carolina Hurricanes continued to generate shots on goal at a record pace when they had 40 in a 3-2 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.

It was the 11th time this season the Hurricanes had at least 40 shots on goal (4-4-3). Only the 1970-71 Boston Bruins had more games (12) with at least 40 shots through the first 18 games of a season since 1955-56, when shots on goal became an official statistic.
Carolina leads the NHL with 750 shots on goal, the most after 18 games since the Bruins had 740 in 1970-71.

The Hurricanes' season high is 57 in a 5-4 overtime victory against the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 13.
Sebastian Aho ended a 12-game goal drought when he scored against Blackhawks goalie Cam Ward in overtime. The 21-year-old forward leads Carolina with 22 points (five goals, 17 assists).
The Hurricanes (8-7-3), who have alternated wins and losses (2-0-1) since a five-game losing streak (0-4-1), are off until playing the Columbus Blue Jackets at PNC Arena on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; FS-CR, FS-O, NHL.TV).
